The Division of Natural Resources says electrical shock is being investigated as a factor in the death of a Bridgeport teenager who drowned at Stonewall Jackson Lake.
The body of 15-year-old Bridgeport High School student Michael Cunningham was pulled from the lake Saturday night. The body has been sent to the state Medical Examiner's office for an autopsy.
DNR Lt. W.A. Persinger says an investigation indicates three youths were swimming behind a boat that was docked at the lake's marina. The victim touched the boat's ladder, suffered a possible electric shock, released his grip and slipped beneath the surface of the water.
Persinger says his body was found nearly five hours later at a depth of 34 feet.
A girl with Cunningham was sent to a hospital.
Persinger says the likely source of the shock has been identified.
