If you like Cassie's Backyard Adventures, this story is for you. Shenandoah University's Blue Ridge Institute for Environmental Studies has a new and improved website, and Cassie has visited many of the sites listed in the Natural Places section. SU BRIES was founded in 1991, and it's a project of the Environmental Studies Department. The website has the results of 20 years of SU BRIES activities, such as research data on land protection and water quality.
Dr. Woody Bousquet of the SU Environmental Studies Department says, "we have over 50 pages and 500 photographs. So you'll see our research data, you'll see the guide to natural areas, and also some information on projects we're doing on campus to improve our environmental stewardship practices to decrease our ecological footprint. In addition there's information on our local watersheds."
Dr. Bousquet says this is a good resource for students and teachers, but regular citizens can also learn more about water quality and environmental issues. For more information, visit http://www.su.edu/cf/su-bries.
