Brush Fires Burn Hundreds of Acres in VA

Posted: Tue 11:31 AM, Apr 05, 2011

Brush fires have burned more than 600 acres in Virginia.

Media outlets report that a fire in Dinwiddie County burned at least 500 acres Monday.

Another fire in Henry County burned more than 100 acres. That fire was one of four reported in the county.

Two firefighters are recovering from smoke inhalation and heat exhaustion suffered while fighting brush fires in Montgomery County.

One fire burned about ten acres near Virginia Route 8 and Laurel Ridge Mill Road Monday. Another burned up to nine acres near Walnut Run in the upper Smith Mountain Lake area.

Henry County Public Safety Director Dale Wagner says high winds and low humidity allowed the flames to spread rapidly.
