6th Annual Edinburg Doggie Paddle

Edinburg Town PoolBring your K-9 companion out for a dip in the pool and a day of fun doggie activities! Practice your tricks and be creative with your costume for our contests. Don’t forget your doggie basket for the doggie bone hunt! This is a free event but we would ask that you bring a donation of paper towels, peanut butter, laundry detergent, dog food, bleach, toys, etc. for the Shenandoah County Animal Shelter who will be on-site with some adoptable dogs. Please bring your current rabies certificate with you and all dogs must be on leash except when in pool. Food will be available for purchase. For all ages.

Family Fun Day at the Shenandoah County Fair

Shenandoah County FairgroundsThese activities are for the entire family and will be held the first day of the County Fair--Saturday, August 24. Bring the entire family and join in the fun by participating in games such as:

Family Fun Day registration begins at 8:30am and activities begin at 9:00am; fee is $1/person OR 1 canned food item. Regular gate admission fees will be charged beginning at 12:00pm.

Strasburg Dive-In Movie: “Dolphin Tale”

Strasburg Town PoolHere’s your chance to lie back on your innertube and relax in the Strasburg Town Pool while watching a cool movie! Join SCPR and the Town of Strasburg for the first-ever Dive-In Movie on July 12. You can watch the movie while floating in the pool or relax on a picnic blanket or in a lawn chair. The “Dolphin Tale” movie is PG which means parental guidance is suggested. What to bring? Your swimsuit, towel, picnic blanket and/or lawn chair; you will be allowed to take a small innertube, arm floaties, or one noodle into the pool; no inflatable lounge chairs will be allowed. Lifeguards will be provided, and the pool’s concession stand will be open for movie snacks. Please come early so that you can secure your seating and enjoy some pool time before the movie begins. In case of inclement weather, the movie
will be shown on Saturday, July 13; please call the SCPR cancellation line at 540-459-6777, Option 0, for movie and weather updates. Gates open at 8:00pm; movie will begin at darkness. $5/person at the gate. Family rates TBD. For All Ages.

Shenandoah Co. FairgroundsEnjoy an afternoon of summer fun shooting around the Shenandoah County Fair. The fairgrounds come alive with activity, whether it is the midway rides in motion, farmers showing off their engines at the tractor pulls, the colorful games concessions, the piglets, cows and other farm animals, or people enjoying themselves. This class is designed to help you get more familiar using the features of your camera and to get hands-on practice using the manual settings. Guidance will be given on camera settings, exposure, composition, and much more. Please bring your digital SLR or Point & Shoot camera, an extra battery and memory card. If using an SLR, any lenses in the range of 18 to 200 and a circular polarizing filter if you have one. A tripod is not recommended for this shooting class. Wear comfortable shoes and dress cool. Class will meet at the east end of the grounds in the pavilion with the Shenandoah County table (near the chicken coup). PLEASE NOTE: Deadline to register is August 20. Fee for the class does NOT include entrance fee to the fair. For ages 18 and over.

Pottery in the Park

Edinburg Town ParkWould you like to transform a lump of clay into a glazed pottery vessel? Art lovers will explore the creative medium of pottery by designing, hand-building, and glazing their own pottery pieces. With hands-on participation at every step of the process, students will even get to participate in an art critique and art show, entitled "Art in the Park", on Friday, August 9, to which family and friends are invited. Gain confidence, a sense of individual worth for self and others, and have fun making pottery. The fee covers all supplies and instruction time. In Session 1, one parent may accompany his/her child for a great parent-child activity! NO additional charge for the parent. PLEASE NOTE: Deadline to register is July 5.

Edinburg Town Park Edinburg Town Park Edinburg Town ParkCome out to the Woodstock Park and join us for "A Day for Me." Children will enjoy two hours of games, scavenger hunts, crafts and water fun! After time in the park, we will head to the pool where our adventures will continue under the mushroom! Note to parents: please pack a lunch, bathing suit, a towel, change of clothes and any other items needed for the pool such as goggles or floaties. Pool admission is included in the class fee. PLEASE NOTE: This program is specifically designed for children with autism between ages 5-12.
Deadline to register is June 18 (A), July 9 (B), and August 6 (C). For ages 5-12 years. Cost for each session is $18.

The Clarke County Fair

Clarke County Ruritan FairgroundsFor a complete list of the schedule of events and other attractions visit www.clarkecountyfair.org County duo, Florida Georgia Line, will be the feature entertainment at the 59th Annual Clarke County Fair on August 17, 2013 in Berryville, Virginia.
Florida Georgia Line will perform the closing evening of the Clarke County Fair on Saturday, August 17th at 8:30 p.m. Track seats cost $25 and grandstand seats cost $20. The Clarke County Fair is happy to announce that tickets will be available on-line this year through Etix. Pre-sale online tickets go on sale Wednesday April 3rd. Service charges will apply to on-line ticket sales. General ticket sales start Saturday, April 6th. Walk-in sales will be at the Clarke County Ruritan Fairgrounds ticket office from 12:00 Noon-3 p.m. every Saturday through April & May. Another highlight of the Fair is regional band Dean Crawford and the Dunn’s River Band performing Wednesday, August 14th at 8:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $7.50 for track, $5 for grandstand. Tickets can also be ordered via mail. Ticket prices do not include the gate admission of $7.
