Spring Trail Rides

Join The Old Town Development Board of Winchester and Full Circle Marketing as they kick-off fall with the “Old Town Beer & Wine Festival!” This two-day event will be held on the Old Town Winchester Mall, primarily at Feltner Parking lot, and the Civil War Museum Courthouse. A variety of local breweries, wineries and distributors will be featuring their top products.

Whether you prefer a dark ale or seasonal, white wine or red, the Old Town Beer & Wine Festival will have what you are looking for. We encourage you to try a little bit of everything — you might even find a new favorite. Beer and wine will be available by sample and purchase by the glass.

To add to the autumn feel, food vendors will be selling all of your favorite tailgating foods such as chili, hot dogs, hamburgers, and more. A variety of live music will also be performing before, during, and after happy hour! Other entertainment will consist of tailgating games including Great American corn-hole, craft and merchandise vendors, food, and more.

Willa Cather Celebration

Celebrate the 100th anniversary of Willa Cather’s book O Pioneers! At 6 p.m. John T. Jacobs, PhD, Shenandoah University English professor and founder of SU’s Willa Cather Institute, will discuss the influences of impressionistic art on Cather’s writing and detail how O Pioneers! foreshadowed her later works and embodied the writer’s enduring themes of immigration, individual courage, and love. Twenty-minute guided tours of American Impressionism will be offered at 6:45, 6:55, and 7:05 p.m. At 7:30 p.m. Winchester’s Magic Lantern Theater will present the PBS documentary, Willa Cather: The Road is All (85 minutes). The film illustrates Cather's life through dramatic re-enactments of scenes from her most famous novels. The galleries will be open 10 a.m.–7:30 p.m. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.

Myths of Classic Proportions

A fun garden adventure for families that includes history, mythology, and a craft! After a guided garden tour highlighting the Greek and Roman statues in the Museum gardens, participants will create Roman-style headwear using plant materials from the gardens while listening to live classical violin music.

Holocaust Remembrance Day

Goodson Chapel/Recital Hall on the campus of Shenandoah University in Winchester, Va.
As part of the annual Holocaust Remembrance Day, Shenandoah University will hold a special program and reading of the names of Holocaust victims on Sunday, April 7. The special program will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. and the reading of the names will occur from 6 to 7 p.m. Both events will be held in Goodson Chapel/Recital Hall on the campus of Shenandoah University in Winchester, Va.

Rabbi Scott Sperling from Winchester's Beth El Congregation will give the keynote address during the special program, which will also include musical performances and testimonies. This event is free and open to the public, and all attendees are invited to help read aloud the names of the victims. Reading time is approximately five minutes per person. Andrea Wulf: "Founding Gardeners"

On this special afternoon author and award-winning historian Andrea Wulf will present the lecture, “Founding Gardeners: The Revolutionary Generations, Nature, and the Shaping of the American Nation.” Wulf lives in Britain, where she trained as a design historian at the Royal College of Art. She has authored numerous books, with Founding Gardeners: The Revolutionary Generation, Nature, and the Shaping of the American Nation published to great acclaim in 2011. Her most recent book, Chasing Venus, was published in eight countries. Her articles have appeared in major newspapers in the United States and Britain, and she has lectured at the Royal Geographical Society and Royal Society in London, the American Philosophical Society in Philadelphia, and the Chicago Botanic Garden. A three-time fellow of the International Center for Jefferson Studies at Monticello, she will be the 2013 Eccles British Library Writer in Residence. This event will also include a book sale and signing. Following her presentation, Wulf will sign The Founding Gardeners. Lecture ticket sales begin March 4. Don’t delay, this event is sure to sell out.

The Lord Fairfax Area food bank will be providing a truck to stuff with non-perishable goods in efforts to keep their shelves stocked to help our local families keep meals on their tables. Also, we are supporting our local CCAP's efforts towards their "Diaper and Wipes" drive and will be collecting donations within our store on their behalf.
