Fingers a little stiff? Well, get them moving again at this basket weaving class! Come make some exciting baskets to be displayed around your home or give them as gifts. In June, you’ll make a Casserole basket which holds a casserole or two pies. In July, make an Ole Time Market basket (8" wide x 14" long x 8" high), not including the handle. In August, you can make a neat Trash basket, (you loop a grocery bag over the handles to hold the trash). Class fee includes all materials needed for the basket. Feel free to bring a drink and/or snack with you. PLEASE NOTE: Deadline to register is the Wednesday before class.
For ages 55 and over.

The Market, Woodstock
Learn basic knitting techniques including cast-on, knit stitch, purl stitch and bind off. Make those handmade gifts that everyone loves to give and get. Beginners and people interested in refreshing their skills are welcome. If you have a special pair of knitting needles, feel free to bring them to use in class. Please note supplies can be purchased at a 10% discount at Spin A Yarn, located in The Market in Woodstock and the class will be held at this location as well. Supplies will cost around $20 including needles, if needed. Participants must come 15 minutes early to the first class to purchase supplies. PLEASE NOTE: Deadline to register is July 3 and August 1. For ages 55 and over.

Within the physical body is an energy body called chakras. These energy pathways, like the to your emotions, physical well-being, and your tension storage. Chakra Yoga is a path for restoring balance to our body, mind, and spirit. Like a battery, when our chakras are fully charged, so are we. Long held tension and environmental factors may create chakra imbalances. With soft EM movement, gentle stretches, inspiration, and guided meditation we will go through all the chakra centers so that you leave class feeling refreshed, renewed, restored, and relaxed. Museum of the Shenandoah Valley
Learn and enjoy the art and benefits of yoga in the Museum’s beautiful gardens. Led by Caroline Felix, certified yoga instructor and owner of Winchester’s Shine Yoga, this class is suitable for both the novice and experienced yoga student. Each class will take place in a different location in the Museum’s Glen Burnie Gardens and will have a different focus.

$10 per class. Registration not required. Participants should bring their own yoga mats and arrive at 8:15 a.m.

Impressionism Art Class

Museum of the Shenandoah Valley
For ages 16+, this workshop will include a guided tour of the American Impressionism exhibition and the Museum’s Glen Burnie Gardens. After a discussion of the impressionistic style, participants will experiment with a variety of art mediums—including watercolors, tissue paper, and acrylic paints—to create impressionistic works of art.

MSV Members: $15; all others: $20. Registration required by May 31.

Myths of Classic Proportions

Museum of the Shenandoah Valley
A fun garden adventure for families that includes history, mythology, and a craft! After a guided garden tour highlighting the Greek and Roman statues in the Museum gardens, participants will create Roman-style headwear using plant materials from the gardens while listening to live classical violin music.

Free to MSV Members. All others: $5 adult, free to children 12 & under. Registration not required.

Summer at ISW: Linked In and Level Headed

Have you ever wondered if your child is getting too much screen time and not enough exercise?
Are you concerned with your child’s safety online, but are unsure of how to handle it?
Don't allow your kids to suffer summer "brain drain!" Enroll them in Winchester's newest summer experience. Summer at ISW ensures that Campers will experience project-based learning opportunities that include cooking, field trips, nutrition and exercise planning, as well as non-traditional sports. Campers will learn about Internet safety and how to be a responsible digital native. The two week experience, hosted by The Independent School of Winchester, will end with a camper driven culminating exposition where they will teach the community the importance of balanced life and how technology is just a piece of the puzzle!
Parents of all registered campers get free admission to pre-camp workshop about parenting digital natives: internet safety and appropriate amounts of screen time for your kids.
Space is limited
Cost is $295 per camper
