A person's character is usually best described by the people she is surrounded by.
"I think she's really deserving. She tries really hard in the classroom and on the court. I think she's the definition of a student athlete because she gives it her all. She's also a really great person to be around and she's always positive so that helps a lot," teammate Kara Dixon said.
Diana Kellam speaks softly and lets her game do the talking. Handley head coach Lindsay Hazelette has seen her leadership in action.
"She definitely can lead vocally on the court, but she's just a little quiet in her manerisms. She's not going to get into one of her teammates faces or be a yeller on the court, but everyone knows when she speaks they're going to listen and benefit from it and make the team better," Hazelette said.
"At first when you meet her, she's really shy but after a while she's really hyper and excited. She sings with us. We used to always sing "Got to be there" by Michael Jackson," Dixon said.
Don't mistake Kellam's quiet nature for weakness because she's a fighter. When her senior year was derailed by a case of pneumonia she fought through it and returned to the court.
"It was hard because I missed our last James Wood game and they've always been big rivals so that was hard to miss that. But when I got back I just wanted to play and get back into it," Kellam said.
Diana's high school career is coming to a close, but as she prepares for the next step, she's looking at her past and future.
"I'm ready to leave. I mean it's been really fun and I love Handley but I'm ready for summer and to start somewhere new. But I'm going to miss everybody."
