"When I'm out on the court I try to put the girliness behind me but off the court I'm still a typical girl."
When Heather Armel steps onto the floor she's all business. The James Wood senior is making history with every game she plays building on her school records for all-time points, points in a season, points in a game and career three-pointers.
"You take Heather out of an equation with our team and we're struggling. She's a heads up player, she knows the game and i tell the girls there's a difference between going out and playing basketball and knowing the game," James Wood coach Rhonda Slider said.
After playing volleyball for the last three seasons Armel chose to sit out this fall and focus on her basketball conditioning.
"I think it's definitely helped me. I feel like I'm quicker now and have more confidence and i came into the season in shape as oppossed to last season where it took me a couple weeks," Armel said.
Teammate Whitney Dennis has been playing with armel since the seventh grade and the two have developed a chemistry that few teams have.
"We have little signals and she knows when to go back-door and we work together well," guard Whitney Dennis said.
Armel especially dangerous from three-point range a talent that's taken years of practice.
"I had a basketball court in my backyard and i would have my dad come and rebound for me. It's all about repetition, so when you get out on the floor and make a basket and know you can keep making them it's just a confidence level you have to have," Armel said.
