Geremi Long's demeanor is quiet. He's soft spoken and always keeps a cool head and those characteristics have helped him become one of the most successful quarterbacks in Handley's rich history.
"He's a great leader in how he treats people, he's an honest person," Handley head coach Tony Rayburn said. "I don't think you could come up with a better model of what you want your kid to be like."
This season, Long guided the Judges to their second straight Northwestern Distirct title, which led to a region title and a shot at going to the state title game.
"It's definitely one of the best ways to end the season, it's a really good feeling," Long said.
The Judges only loss came in the state semi-final to Bruton, ending their hopes of becoming the third team in school history to win it all. But despite the loss, Long gained experience and grew as a person.
"As a quarterback I think he's gotten a lot better at his decision making. Whether it's to run or pass."
In 2008, Geremi was forced to split time with senior quarterback Brian Tavanner, but he never complained, always putting the team before himself.
"He had a great attitude. No one likes someone to come and play in front of you, but he did everything we asked of him and he handled it like a leader," Rayburn said.
Handley running back Jeremiah Wilson is one of the most talented players in the state of virginia but respects his quarterbacks game which sometimes goes unnoticed.
"He's one of those guys who leads by example," Wilson said. "He says stuff when he needs to. The past couple years I've seen him grow. He's a dual threat because he can pass the ball and run the ball. He's just a great guy."
Always one to look at the big picture, Long says this is a season he'll never forget.
"It's a great feeling. I feel like I can tell my kids and grandkids about this experience down the road," Long said.
