Whether on the basketball court, or the soccer field, Jill Hobbs is a winner. The Clarke County high school senior can put state titles both sports on her impressive athletic resume. But of all the accolades and titles she's won, there's one that stands out above the rest.
"Being state player of the year my sophomore year" said Hobbs, who plays central midfield for Clarke County. " I worked really hard and everything really paid off." Her coach Laurie Harrell added, "That's voted on by all the coaches in the state, that's a pretty incredible honor for sophomore."
Indeed a sophomore winning state soccer player of the year honors is no small feat. But neither is achieving a 3.951 unweighted GPA, while taking advanced placement and dual enrollment classes. But that's what Jill has done in her 4 years of high school, placing her in the top 10 in Clarke County's graduating class.
"Knowing that it's going to pay off in the long run, I want to be a pharmacist I know I'm going to have to work hard and this is just going to help me." said Hobbs, whose headed to Virginia Tech next fall.
On the soccer field Hobbs is a quiet leader, preferring to set the tone with a harsh tackle on an opponent than with a harsh word for a teammate. A quality that her coach just can't put a price on.
"She controls the ball, distributes it, she's also one of the leading scorers." said Harrell. "We count on her to take care of that, control the middle of the field."
Congratulations to Jill Hobbs of Clarke County, TV3 Winchester's Student Athlete of the Week.
