Joel Witt plays football and football. Football as we know it here in the United States, and soccer, or football as it's known overseas. But when asked to pick his favorite out of the two, Witt can't come up with an answer.

"During football season I like football more, during soccer season, I like soccer more," Witt said.

While Witt may waiver as to what sport is his favorite, he never waivers in the classroom at Sherando High School, where Witt has a 4.14 GPA and is sixth out of 275 students in his class.

"He already knows where he's going to go to school, never has to worry about his grades or his SAT's and never has to worry about being an ineligible player," Witt's Soccer Coach, Patrick Anderson said.

"Sports is as much mental as it is physical," Witt said. "And being in the classroom, being aware everyday of the week, it just helps you become more prepared for what you have to do on the field."

Witt has also been honored by his teammates, being named captain of both Sherando's football and soccer teams. Witt's quiet, steady style of leadership drives his teammates, and has made Witt an important part of Warrior athletics.

"We definitely feed off what Joel does," Anderson said. "He doesn't have to yell at anybody, but just through his play."

Congratulations to Joel Witt for being named TV3 Winchester's Student Athlete of The Week.
