"When I was younger I did a lot of beading, with bracelets and jewelery, and I always dreamed of opening something with that. Like doing a little kids store and being able to sell stuff like that. So, I think kind of thing would be fun." Says Lawson.
There is no doubt that Katheryne Lawson has what it takes to become an entrepreneur. She just returned from an international DECA competition. But says she enjoys the atmosphere of business and marketing, which is why she will likely per-sure that major at Colgate University in the fall.....
"I was recruited to play (soccer). I'm just so excited about that opportunity and it's a great academic school. I love cold weather, I love the snow, and they get a lot of snow there, so I'm just excited to go up there." Says Lawson.
Lawson my not have won a soccer scholarship, had she not rebounded from a serious injury two years ago.
"When I broke my ankle, it was really difficult because I thought it was really hard for me to come back, because I thought it was a really bad sprain. So that was kind of a bummer." Says Lawson.
But overcoming obstacles is something that runs in the family.
"My Grandmother, she is definitely a big inspiration. I know a lot of peoples inspirations are there family members, but she was recently diagnosed with cancer. So it is kind of a difficult time for that, but she is a great inspiration. She is a very driven person, she went back to school with two kids at home and became a psychologist, which I think is commendable. She has just always been there for me, and always been supportive." Says Lawson.
With her Grandmother and her other family members motivating her Katheryne has become the number one student in her entire class, and has help Clarke County to first place in the district.
"She's the team leader, she's the captain and she runs my middle, which creates lots of options and again takes tons of energy." Says Clarke County High School head women's soccer coach, Laurie Harrell.
When Kat does get time to relax, she enjoys skiing, watching The Notebook, and cruising in her Jeep with the top down.
