Rhonda Runion likes to help...
"I like to distribute the ball. I have never been a person that likes to hold on to the ball for a long amount of time, I've been a distributor for pretty much all my teams." Says Runion.
"Very, very unselfish player all the way round. She doesn't care who scores. She doesn't care where the wins come from. As long as we get the win, that's all she cares about." Says Millbrook High School Women's Head Soccer Coach, Kieth Kilmer.
After being with the Millbrook varsity squad for three losing season, Rhonda's hard work has helped her and her team mates to seven wins already... A mark never accomplished my the Pioneer girls team. Climbing up hill is something that is in her genes...
"My grandfather hiked the entire Appellation trails, so he's taken me to a lot of different spots. I can't think of one in-particular, but hopefully one day I will follow in his foot steps, and do that." Says Runion.
As Millbrooks all-time leading goal scorer, Runion is building a legacy of her own and will continue to do so on the pitch and in the class room when she attends Campbell University next fall.
"I would like to become a pediatric endocrinology, and probably a lot of people don't know what that is. But I'm diabetic, I was diagnosed a week before I turned twelve and that's the type of doctor I see." Says Runion.
Rhondas diabetes hasn't hindered her life or her performance in soccer, if anything she says it has made her a better person.
"Actually, today it has helped me out a good bit. Just like self discipline wise and just learning take care of myself. I think that has helped me out on the field and in the class room... I had a nurse in the hospital, when I was diagnosed , that just basically told me that you're the one that's going to be living with this, you need to learn to take care of yourself. That really had a big impact on my life." Says Runion.
And there is no doubt she will also have an impact on other peoples lives. Congratulations Rhonda Runion of Millbrook High School, TV 3 Winchesters Student Athlete of The Week.
