Student Athlete of the Week - Robert Vaughan
|
|
Robert Vaughan loves building things. The Sherando senior and engineering buff, amongst other things, has built a pretty successful swimming career, one that came through a lot of hard work.
"You have to be naturally good at swimming a little bit , but to a point." says Vaughan. "Then you just have to train and train and train, and that's the only way you get faster."
Vaughan hopes to become an engineer after college and he is already taking strides towards that end by interning at a local engineering firm. His projects from school are impressive, showing the attention to detail that has made Robert successful in everything he sets his mind to.
"Everything just works out in engineering. We have to build stuff and design things, even if it is not technically possible to make it. It's not necessarily a mathematical thing, but it's also a way for me to express myself artistically" says the Sherando swim captain.
The Sherando swimming team finished the year with a winning record, both over-all and against the Northwestern District. Much of the Warriors success came thanks to Vaughan and the leadership he provided for his younger teammates.
"You can't ever slack off when you're at practice with the other kids. You've got to be in front of the pack the whole time. And then the guy in the lane next to you, you got to be like, come on keep up with me. And a lot of the guys I asked to do that, did, and they are much better at the end of the year then when they first started."
Congratulations to Robert Vaughan of Sherando High School, TV3 Winchesters Student Athlete of the Week.
