Steve Conradi of the Shenandoah Valley Christian Academy is the definition of goal oriented. This Eagle Scout, Cross Country MVP and A Honor Roll Student accomplishes pretty much anything he puts his mind too which makes it no surprise he's our student Athlete of the Week.
"You have to be smart about the way you run. You can't go out at the beginning and sprint, you have to balance it out, you have to figure out what your pace is," said Conradi. "Cross country helps you with school, it gives you the mentality that you can do it because you push yourself hard in cross country."
Conradi is a big contributor at SVCA. A standout basketball player in addition to his Cross Country duties, Steve also plays a big role outside of athletics. A treasurer for the Varsity Club and a member of SVCA's Science Club, this math buff helps set the standard for all Patriots whether they play sports or not.
"He wants to lead, he wants to grow, so in this program, in a school the size that we are it helps quite a bit to have an academically strong athlete," said SVCA Cross Country Coach Stephen Meier.
Conradi is a pioneer of sorts for the Patriots. He was a member of the school's first Cross Country team two years ago and as the program has blossomed so have the senior's leadership skills making him a key asset as the Green and Gold look for continued success.
"My sister's on the team so I know she talks to my dad alot and tells him that she runs harder when I'm out there and likes it better when I'm out there. So at least from that point I know I've made an impact on my sister," said Conradi.
Though Conradi is quite an athlete, he's been sidelined of late with a hip injury, an injury that almost forced him to miss qualifying for the Conference Championships next week. Instead of missing out on his last chance at a title Conradi ran through the pain, showing toughness and grit that left even his coach in awe.
"After the race was finished he had actually competed close to the level that he would have normally been at. He said he ran hard because he wanted to run hard, even though it made have hurt a little bit, he pushed right through it. I think that showed alot of character," said Meier.
Congratulations to Steve Conradi of Shenandoah Valley Christian Academy our TV3 Winchester Student Athlete of the Week.
