The Frederick County Public School Board heard comments from the public Tuesday night regarding the cancellation of freshmen sports this year at James Wood, Sherando and Millbrook High Schools.
About 70 people turned out for the first public forum on the topic. Frederick County schools decided to drop all freshmen sports for the 2010-2011 school year as a cost-cutting measure.
Parents and concerned citizens got their chance to speak to the Board Tuesday and about six took advantage of the opportunity.
For the most part, they questioned how the board couldn't spare roughly $53,000 in order to offer sports to the 180 students affected system-wide.
