Your hometown weather will be forecasted for you by your own hometown girl. Lauryn Ricketts, born and raised under six generations in Winchester has returned home to forecast weather in her hometown. First a graduate of John Handley High School and then continuing her education at Ashland, Virginia’s Randolph-Macon College graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Studies and Biology concentrating in Meteorology she has always had a long-time passion for weather. Through college she gained experience working with one of the best broadcasters in the business, Chief Meteorologist John Bernier at WRIC Channel 8 in Richmond, VA. Through this experience she was able to learn the ins and outs of the forecasting world and also had a great opportunity to learn the top software any television market had to offer. With this under her belt she made the transition to a top 10 market, WTTG FOX 5 in Washington, D.C. interning first for weathercaster Gwen Tolbart and local legend Sue Palka. After graduation she landed a full time job at WTTG first as a production assistant but quickly moving to the Fox 5 Storm Force as a field producer for Tony Perkins but then becoming a weather producer for Sue Palka. Now back in her hometown, Lauryn is excited to start her own localized forecasts for the valley.
While at Randolph-Macon College, Lauryn committed herself to four years of the yellow jackets women’s soccer. Although most recently she has been involved with James Wood High School Women’s soccer program she still has her Handley Pride!
