A new statewide poll puts Gov. Bob McDonnell's job approval rating at 53 percent, matching the lowest number of his term.
The Quinnipiac University survey of 1,282 registered voters from Thursday through Monday has seen the popularity of the Republican vice presidential prospect melt from his high of 62 percent in October.
The poll, released Wednesday morning, has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 2.7 percentage points.
Quinnipiac's poll also found a likely U.S. Senate match this fall between Democrat Tim Kaine and Republican George Allen still deadlocked. Forty-four percent backed Kaine, and 43 percent backed Allen, who must still win Tuesday's four-way GOP primary.
