The scorching heat did not stop the people of New Market from coming out to the carnival. Today was the first day of festivities of New Market's Fire and Rescue Summer Celebration.
The celebration includes food, rides, games and on thursday a parade through the downtown. All of the proceeds go to help improve the Fire and Rescue department.
With a tremedous turnout, the department feels they have reached their two goals:
"To come out and support fire and rescue is the biggest thing, and then just to get off each other. It's kind of a reach out, and everybody comes together as one in the community. So we are just trying to build the community relations here in new market, just to, you know, everybody get together as one."
The New Market carnival ends on June 23, and admission is free.
