MT. SOLON, Va - A teenage boy was trapped in a cave on Monday night.

Glade Cave, where the boy was trapped, is in the north west part of Augusta County off of Rt 42.

At least five rescue teams responded to the incident and the teenager was eventually freed. He was taken to an ambulance and received medical treatment.

Augusta County Fire Captain Nathan Ramsey says the boy was trapped for two to three hours.

He says crews had to set up a pulley system to get the boy out of the cave.

Ramsey says the cave goes as far deep as 400 to 500 feet below the ground.

This isn't the first time someone has gotten trapped in this cave. A similar situation happened here just last summer.

Ramsey says it helped to have crews that are already trained in cave rescues.

"It seems to be becoming a common thing," said Ramsey. "Luckily we have personnel trained and well-versed that's been here and made the rescue before, so they knew the cave really well."

Ramsey says it's always difficult to deal with a cave rescue, especially since the boy was trapped between rocks.

Fire crews from Augusta County, Waynesboro, Staunton and Mount Solon all responded.

The boy was part of a summer camp group and other people were in the cave with him.

After the rescue, the boy was sent to RMH with non life-threatening injuries.
