September is National Preparedness Month, an annual nationwide effort to encourage Americans to prepare for emergencies.
Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell recognizes the annual preparedness event, which urges families to prepare by following these four steps:
1) Stay Informed. There is plenty of information available on what to do, and also be aware of weather conditions.
2) Make a Plan. Discuss and agree on an emergency plan with those in your care.
3) Build a Kit. Keep enough emergency supplies on hand for you and those in your care.
4) Get Involved. Before a disaster happens the community can make sure their neighbors are prepared.
