Capital Murder Charge Dropped in Va. Slaying

A man charged with killing his pregnant girlfriend no longer faces a possible death penalty if he's convicted.

Media outlets report that a Henrico Circuit Court judge approved a prosecution motion Tuesday to drop capital murder and fetal homicide charges against Gregory L. Nelson Jr. An explanation for the motion wasn't given.

Nelson is charged with stabbing 24-year-old Susana Cisneros to death after she told her family that he was the father of her unborn child. Police arrested Nelson in Florida several days after the March 9 slaying. Cisneros was nine months pregnant when she died.

Nelson is scheduled to stand trial in December on a first-degree murder charge.
