The Express and River Bandits had their game in Woodstock delayed by lightning in the third inning tied at six.
The weather deteriorated and the game was called.
With no more rain dates to make up the game, the Express' regular season ended Thursday. The team finished the season 17-26.
Meanwhile, Front Royal, who was battling Strasburg for the final playoff spot, won their game Thursday at Haymarket, 12-5.
Front Royal (17-27) was hoping for a Woodstock win against Strasburg to force a one-game playoff with the Express for the final playoff spot.
However, when Strasburg's game was officially called, the Express clinched the final playoff spot by virtue of having a better winning percentage than Front Royal.
Strasburg plays Winchester Friday in the first round of the playoffs.
