Royals Sweep River Bandits; Will Play for 1st VBL Title Since 2004

The Royals beat the River Bandits on the road, 5-1.

Winchester swept the series 2-0. The Royals advance to the Valley League championship series for the first time since 2004. That was also the last time Winchester won the title.

Winchester will host Harrisonburg Wednesday night in game one of the championship series. The Turks beat Waynesboro Tuesday 2-1 in seven rain-shortened innings to win the South division championship.

The Royals scored three runs in the second inning and two more in the seventh to jump out to a 5-0 lead.

David Lidyard struck out nine River Bandits in six innings work to earn the win for Winchester.

The Royals held Woodstock to three runs in two games.
