Oates, a nine-year old rising fifth grader at Stonewall Jackson Elementary school, beat more than 60 others in his age group this weekend.
The Eastern Conference championships were held at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee.
Oates' car is 17 feet long, tops out at 49 miles per hour and weighs just 350 pounds.
Oates is a member of the Mason-Dixon Dragway in Hagerstown, Md.
