June 4th, Haymarket's second game of the season; Matt Snyder from Ole Miss, and designated hitter for the Senators, was at bat when he was hit in the face by a pitch, breaking his jaw, right cheek and orbital bones. After being stabilized, Snyder was air lifted to a near by hospital where he underwent tests.

Snyder said, "It could be a career ending thing, and when I got hit it was the scariest moment of my life."

A moment that Matt's father Brian helped him get through. Brian pitched for the World Series Champion Oakland Athletics in 1989. His words of strength helped aid Matt, even after being cut by Haymarket following the injury.

His father wasn't the only one to think Matt would play again. Five days after his injury, Matt was drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 44th round. Before the accident he was projected to be selected in the 10th round, but Matt is just thankful that his name was called.

Being drafted came as no surprise to Mike Snyder, Matt's twin brother and former Haymarket teammate.

Instead of waiting until next spring to play again, just 45 days after his injury, Matt signed with the Winchester Royals. His numbers are proving he isn't scared at the plate. Through seven games with Winchester he's batting .292 with 2 home runs and 8 RBI.
