At 92 years young, Marvin Reifsnyder is Shenandoah Valley Golf Club's oldest member, and there is no doubt... this World War II Vet knows the 27 course like the back of his hand. "The trees can be punishing... as you've found out!" he teased. A lifelong fitness buff, it should come as no surprise that Reifsnyder lifts dumbbells every morning. You might think it would be tiring for someone his age, but Marv wouldn't have it any other way.
"I've always been a fitness fiend" boasted the Marv, "If you have your health you can enjoy almost anything, if you don't have it life is kind of a bore I would think."
An accomplishment most golfers hope for once in a lifetime, Marvin has scored under his age on plenty of occasions. He's also got 2 holes in one on the same par 3 on Shenandoah Valley's red course. But for Marv it's never been about a scorecard or a record, just having fun.
"You've got to remember that it's just a game, and you are out there to have fun and enjoy yourself and get a little exercise."
Marvin's wife of 69 years, Virginia, passed away early last year, and though Marv acknowledges the time since has been real tough, he says staying busy both on the golf course and singing karaoke with his buddies at the American Legion keeps him going. "I like karaoke and I like to sing, but I'm a little dubious about my talents in that direction" says Marv, whose favorite tune is Frank Sinatra's Pistol Packin' Mama. Marvin and I only had time to get through 9 holes. But in the battle of youth vs experience, let's just say Marvin's knowledge of the course held up just like he has for all these years
