Coming off a disappointing season in 2006, the Clarke County Eagles knew they had to get stronger in order to win in 07'. So coach Chris Parker's squad made a beeline for the weight room.
"You have to be strong to win football games" declared senior Wide Receiver Chase Hardesty. "That's how it's always been...we had a whole bunch of guys in the weight room and it's been a lot better for us."
One important change for the Eagles will be at quarterback, where Chandler Rhoads is making the switch from Wide Receiver. The decision to put Rhoads at quarterback is a bold move, but one that could pay off in a big way.
"Chandler is definitely a very gifted athlete and an intelligent young man" says head coach Chris Parker. "For us to have the best chance right now it's with him at quarterback."
A tough Bull Run district awaits Clarke County as they try and get back to winning football. As the Eagles try and navigate a schedule that includes state champion River Heads, their senior class will have to deliver. "We have 8 or 9 seniors that were all on the team last year" noted Rhoads, himself one of those seniors. "We have great leadership and we are really coming together as a team."
