The James Wood Colonels are a team on the rise, and now, it's first year head coach Mike Bolin's job to make sure they continue to improve.
"I think knowing our athletes and what their strengths and weakness are, it's an advantage that I have as a returning member of the staff" says Bolin, who previously serves as the Colonels Offensive line Coach.
After missing the playoffs in each of the previous 25 years, the Colonels returned to the post season last fall under legendary coach Walter Barr. And while Barr has since retired, his lessons still resonate with his former players.
"Seniors definitely have a big role this year" says senior Kelsey Shannon "a lot of the younger guys never had Coach Barr and don't really know what it's all about"
Make no mistake though, the Colonels now belong to Bolin, and he's already making a big impression with tough practices.
"You've got to push yourself, you can never quit" says linebacker Danny Cooper "(We'll) be in better shape in the fourth quarter."
The Colonels lost 3 members of their back-field to graduation, along with a number of offensive lineman , but quarterback Trae Tinsman has faith in his teammates, especially his wideouts.
"They have great potential" says Tinsman of the Colonels receiving corps "they are really fast, have great hands, and they're not afraid to go across the middle."
