It's not every day that Shenandoah Football gets a chance to link itself with the Washington Redskins... so when former Skins great Joe Jacoby wanted to give back to the games that gave him so much... the Hornets jumped at the chance to bring him aboard.
"When he steps on the field and goes 'hey this is the way we did it', that really helps your program credibility." says Shenandoah Head Coach Paul Barnes.
After retiring from the NFL in 1993, Jacoby embarked on a successful business career, that included a car dealership in Warrenton. But with his kids getting older, and his itch to get back to football growing... the former "Hog" felt Shenandoah was the perfect place to start his coaching career.
"I thought this gave me the best opportunity as far as learning with a coaching staff" says Jacoby, a member of the NFL's All-Decade team for the 1980's, " game planing, (and) being on the sidelines and being involved totally in the whole program."
Jacoby's credentials are impeccable, the man known as "Jake" made the Pro Bowl 4 straight years between 1983 and 1986, and also won 3 Super Bowls with the Redskins. All that experience, 13 years in the NFL worth, will be a huge asset as SU looks to get back on top of the USA South Conference.
"The knowledge that he's brought in already...in the coaches meetings is tremendous" says former SU offensive lineman Nick Oakley, who will work with Jacoby as a student assistant. "His input and his experience are very unique."
SU kicks off their season Saturday September 6th against Catholic University.
