Taking over a football program is always a daunting task... but when taking over for arguably 2 of the best coaches this area has ever seen, it doesn't matter who you are, you've got your work cut out for you. In the past week replacements have been named for both Walter Barr at James Wood and Glenn Proctor at Strasburg. At James Wood former assistant Mike Bolin takes over. Bolin has been a big part of the Colonels success over the past few years, coaching the freshman team as well as over-seeing the off season conditioning and weight training programs. James Woods' players feel good about Bolin taking over.
"He has great leadership. For all of us, he is a great person to look up to." noted returning quarterback Trae Tinsman. "He knows what he is talking about as a coach and I think he will succeed this year."
"Having coach Bolin as our head coach helps a lot because, as seniors we don't have to get used to anything new" said linebacker Kelsey Shannon "we know he is just going to keep everything rolling."
Bolin himself expressed enthusiasm at taking over at a place like James Wood "You couldn't ask to work at a better place than James Wood." says the 29 year old head coach. "The student athletes are hard workers, they're humble.. and they care about each other."
20 miles south of James Wood another transition is under way. After 300 plus wins spread across more than 40 years of coaching, Glenn Proctor resigned as Strasburg's head football coach back in November. Proctor's replacement was named late last week in former Strasburg quarterback Mark Roller. Roller had most recently served as an assistant at Sherando, but the opportunity to return to his roots was too good to pass up. "It's exciting to go back and be able to give back a little of what was given to me" says Roller. "to be able to provide those kids with the same opportunity I had at Strasburg is what's exciting to me."
Strasburg went 6-4 last year but missed the playoffs.
