To see Weightlifting Unlimited from the outside you may not think a whole lot about it, and on the inside the equipment probably wont impress you all that much. What will impress you is the fact that this small gym in the heart of Winchester is home to three world record holding power lifters. "These fancy gyms you got juice bars and they wont allow you to use chalk, or yell, or stomp around and slap each other around. A lot of that goes on here." Says Randy Robinson. There is no doubt that a lot of blood, sweat, tears, and hard work have gone into the impressive titles of the members of Weightlifting Unlimited. But there is a secret weapon of sort, a training style known as the West Side Method. "We train our central nervous system to accept heavier weights and we train technique and form. Where as other gyms, guys go there and train there muscles. What we'll do, is the technique in like a bench press or a squat is much like a golf swing. Its very complex in nature and you have to learn that. A lot of guys at the meets, it's not always that the strongest guy wins the meet, it's the guy that has the technique perfected." Says Rusty Pugh. The West Side Method on its own definitely makes a difference for the gyms members who compete on a regular basis. But whether you're setting world records or just trying to reach a personal best, the camaraderie shared within the walls at Weightlifting Unlimited is really what sets this gym apart. "Just like with the rest of life, if you don't think you can do something and some body encourages you and you get a little bit of confidence, you can do more and more." Says Larry Short. Great guys. Its not what you're benching here, it's everybody trying to help everybody and that's one thing I like about this club." Says Bud Drummond.
