Nine months ago our area was shocked and saddened when an unsecured soccer goal tipped over and took the life of Stephens City youngster Hayden Barnes Ellias. This Sunday Hayden's memory will be honored when the Winchester Impact play host to the Richmond Rowdies. Proceeds from the indoor soccer game will be donated to the Hayden Barnes Ellias Memorial Fund, which within the next few months will help start "Hayden's Goal." It's a foundation designed to spread the word on goal safety and ensure that tragedies, like the one that took Hayden's life, never happen again. "As parents, we didn't want to see something like this happen again." says Hayden's mother, Mary Ellias. "So the point behind what we are doing is to continue the education of players, coaches, referees, soccer associations, and just the general public, so that they are aware that there are dangers out there with soccer goals."
Note: The Impact won 22-16 to improve their season record to 4-4. Winchester also set a new single-game attendance record.
