They say everything happens for a reason. A year ago, in what was supposed to be a break out season for Kelley Washington, the Winchester native struggled with injuries and never really got going for the Cincinnati Bengals. Fast forward a year... and Washington is headed to the Super Bowl with the New England Patriots. "It didn't really hit me until Monday when we got our itineraries for the Super Bowl" said Washington. "It's an unbelievable feeling... it's the pinnacle of any athletes' career."
Washington has become a force on the Patriots special teams unit. Against San Diego in the AFC Championship game, he made a huge play to pin the Chargers deep in their own territory on a punt. It's a role he's embraced in order to be a part of New England's historic run.
"I think everybody is just ready to make history" says Kelley, "All the records will be broken in time, but this would be something no one could ever take away from us."
As far as the opposition is concerned, New England has never been one to overlook an opponent, and the Giants are no different. "They just go out and try and win the game on defense and control the clock with their offense" shares Washington "they've got some really good skill position players."
The Patriots will head to Arizona Monday the 28th, and play the New York Giants Sunday February 3rd.
