PETERSBURG, Va. (AP) -- Authorities have identified a fellow patient as a suspect in the death of a 22-year-old Alexandria man at Central State Hospital.
State Police Sgt. Thomas Molnar said Monday the suspect, 31-year-old George Phillips, also is charged with bank robbery and attempted murder of a police officer. Those charges stem from an escape attempt in which one deputy was stabbed and another shot at the Fauquier County Courthouse on December 30.
Phillips was sent to Central State Hospital to be evaluated for his competency to stand trial.
Authorities say surveillance video shows Phillips twice entering the room of patient Justin L. Davis, who was found dead the following morning. No charges have been filed in Davis' death.
