FINCASTLE, Va. (AP) -- A former leader convicted of embezzling nearly $10,000 from the Troutville Volunteer Rescue Squad will spend two years on probation.
Stacy L. Tanaka was convicted of embezzlement Tuesday in
Botetourt County Circuit Court.
The 34-year-old former captain of the rescue squad received a
five-year suspended sentence and probation. Tanaka also was ordered
to pay back the money.
Both Tanaka and another former rescue squad member were indicted
in December on embezzlement charges.
Twenty-eight-year-old Elizabeth L. Falls is scheduled to stand trial March 18. She is accused of taking about $30,000.
Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Jill Deegan says the two cases
aren't related.
