More than 3,500 motorists were stopped this weekend by Virginia State Police during the 13th Operation Air, Land, and Speed.
It was a two-day initiative aimed at cracking down on speeders, reckless drivers, seat-belt violators, and drunk drivers. Virginia State Police saturated Interstates 81 and 95.
State police stopped 717 reckless drivers and 20 drunk drivers. Three hundred and ten people were cited for seat-belt violations.
The Virginia State Police Superintendent says it's discouraging to see so many motorists on Virginia interstates putting themselves and others at risk by failing to comply with speed limits, to buckle up, and to drive sober.
