Local fire and rescue departments are warning residents of the possibility roofs collapsing.
So far, Winchester Fire and Rescue has had no major issues with collapses yet, still, the weight of the heavy, wet snow could cause a collapse.
Chief Frank Wright says keeping drains open will allow for melted snow to run off the roof.
Wright is asking residents to clear their sidewalks leading up to their homes, if possible, in case fire and rescue gets called out for an emergency.
"One of the troubles that we have, and we do send extra people on these calls, we send a large pumper with our ambulances to help get to the residences, but also getting from the street to the house is a challenge when you have to crawl through three feet of snow in some instances," explains Wright.
Also make sure no furnace or dryer vent is not blocked by the snow.
That could create an extra heat and a fire hazard. Winchester Fire and Rescue workers are checking some flat roofs within the city that have heavy snow on them.
