Winter Storm Update
Snow Plan C remains in effect in the City of Winchester. Crews will
continue to plow and remove snow from streets. It is requested that
vehicles not be parked on streets and drive only when necessary in order to expedite this process.
Property owners and occupants should also be reminded that snow and ice should be removed from sidewalks.
The following City services have been altered as of the date and time of
this release:
1. Recycling and refuse collection is cancelled for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday so crews can focus on snow removal. Refuse collection will resume Thursday, February 11 with its normal schedule.
2. Transit service in the City of Winchester is cancelled for Monday,
February 8. Transit service will resume Tuesday, February 9. The Department of Emergency Management will be staffing a call center and
taking questions by phone starting at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 8,
2010. Questions regarding street conditions, snow hauling schedules,
refuse and recycling schedules, etc. can be obtained by contacting the call center at 540-545-4732 or 540-545-4733. Emergency calls should dial 9-1-1.
Avoid overexertion during clean-up. Shoveling snow or pushing a car can bring on a heart attack or make other medical conditions worse.
Know the signs of a heart attack:
-Chest discomfort-Most heart attacks involve discomfort in the center of
the chest that lasts more than a few minutes or that goes away and comes back. It can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain.
-Discomfort in other areas of the upper body-Symptoms can include pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
-Shortness of breath may occur with or without chest discomfort.
-Other signs include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or light-headedness.
The City of Winchester would like to thank everyone for their continued
patience during this clean-up effort.
Updates will follow as additional information becomes available.
