Local contractors are out in full force to scrape snow and rescue stranded drivers.
Minnick's Towing is gearing up for a busy weekend of towing and plowing as this snow storm slams the Valley.
Crews spent most of Friday spreading salt in parking lots of local businesses. Owner, Bob Minnick says his team is ready for heavy snow. "We're ready. People with 4-wheel drive, as long as they've got good tires, they're safe. People with 2-wheel drive vehicles, they need to go home and stay home or maybe stayed home this morning and not come out".
If you must drive in these conditions Minnick says get a bag of sand and a shovel to dig out if you get stuck.
Minnick's towed at least 300 cars after the blizzard the weekend before Christmas.
They're breaking out 4-wheel drive vehicles to make sure trucks don't get stuck trying to plow roads or tow cars.

Who does the snowplowing for Greenbriar sub-diviion? I think they did a good job of clearing two paths, one close to mail boxes and one down the middle of the road to make it twice as hard to get out! One path is not enough, it is a big sub-division and one pick up truck w/plow is not enough. Concerned citizen.
I called VDOT to see if they could send a plow so that I could get to my 80 year old neighbor who had no electric and thus no way to heat their home. No plow was ever sent but they did call me to say that a shelter would be open and that if I needed transportation they would come and get me. My question is, how would they come and get me if VDOT didn't send a plow? Thankfully the electric finally came back on, but I still can not get to my neighbor. I call to check on them every once in a while, but this is a situation that if something serious were to happen to them I am afraid that no one would be able to reach them in time. I saw truck go by Friday with their plow up and one went by yesterday with the plow up. Big tractors have gone by with their plows up. One would have to ask WHY? Some day I hope to get my own truck with a plow so I can plow out my neighbors and plow my own road.
Have the city, county, and VDOT estimated when the roads will be drivable and when the Winchester area will be back in operation -- schools, businesses, government offices? Thanks for being there, TV3-online. You are my main and almost only local news source while the sky is overcast because I have DirecTV, which means absolutely no TV reception during even moderately bad weather.
