A local man beat some pretty big odds by selecting the winning numbers in the Mega Millions lottery worth about $200 million Friday.

Not only was the ticket sold in the town of Shenandoah, but the winner lives there as well.

The news traveled fast around the town, and while they have to wait until Monday for official confirmation, residents say they're excited for the winners.

It's the second largest jackpot in the Virginia lottery and it's headed to the town of Shenandoah.

"It's been a very big experience for us today. I got a call this morning and all that we had a $200-million winner. Somebody local," says James Crump.

Crump works at the Valley's Exxon and has sold tickets to the lottery winner, Steve Williams of Shenandoah.

"Does it randomly. He doesn't put, invest a lot of money into it. But he'll say, 'Give me a ticket for Wednesday night or Friday night,'" says Crump.

Susan Plum is a neighbor of Steve and Kathy Williams' and their daughter, Whitney, and heard the news Saturday morning.

"We've been so excited to think of the news of a local person, somebody right here that has worked so hard all their life to win money like this. I think it's great," says Plum.

Plum says it couldn't have gone to a better family.

"Very deserving of this. I'm proud of them. They're a deserving, hardworking couple," says Plum.

However, it's not just the Williams family who won money. Valley's Exxon will also get $50,000 for selling the winning ticket, adding to the community's excitement.

"It's overwhelming. I guess you could say it's overwhelming, having something like that happen here," says Crump.

"That's what makes it so exciting. Is to just know that it happened right here in this little town. It's exciting news," says Plum.

The Virginia Lottery says the odds of having the winning ticket were one in 176 million.

Why hasn't this information gotten further around? I've been looking and here it is. Perhaps confirmation is needed first than speculation.
