From REC -
Fredericksburg, Va. – As of noon today, less than 1,200 Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) members remain without power. With the exception of a few events in Caroline County, all services have been restored east of Interstate 95. Cooperative crews and personnel will continue working through today’s holiday, replacing broken poles and repairing damaged equipment and downed lines. As crews continue working around the clock, REC phone center representatives will be on duty 24 hours every day until every member has service.
Today, REC linemen assisted by reinforcements from other cooperatives and contract crews from Maryland, Delaware, Georgia, North Carolina, Mississippi and Virginia, are concentrating efforts in the most severely damaged counties. Those counties include Culpeper, Greene, Madison, Orange, Rappahannock and Warren. Scattered outages still exist in all REC localities west of Interstate 95. There are still 400 damage locations identified, some requiring extensive time to repair. Complete restoration in locations where damage is most extreme may take several more days.
Safety is always top priority for our members and our crews. Members are urged to remember even as restoration work nears completion, please use caution. Stay away from downed power lines, treating them and anything touching them as though they are energized. Report any unsafe conditions immediately and please stay away from areas where crews are at work.
To report a power outage, please call 1-800-552-3904 or visit www.myrec.coop and report your outage online. If the cause of the damage is evident, and you are reporting your outage by phone, please provide information concerning cause and location to the customer service representative. Callers with no additional information are encouraged to choose the automated reporting option. Members who rely on a smart phone can also access outage information and report an outage through the Cooperative’s website.
REC provides electric service to over 155,000 connections in parts of 22 Virginia counties. With its general office in Fredericksburg, Va., Rappahannock maintains more than 16,000 miles of power lines through its service area, which ranges from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay. Outage updates will be provided on the Cooperative’s website, www.myrec.coop, Facebook and Twitter.
