Eat Pie!
For the third straight year, TV3 personalties competed in the Frederick County Fair pie eating contest, sponsored by the Virginia Farm Market. This year it was an apple pie eating extravaganza.
Last year, after another contestant regurgitated, TV3's own James Tully was crowned champion.
This year he defended his title against another TV3 sports anchor, Mike Giangreco, as well as several other worthy, well...mostly hungry competitors. In the end Matthew Cooper, with six slices and six scoops of ice cream down the gullet, is the new champion. Giangreco finished a close 2nd with five and a half slices. James Tully was a distant 3rd.
"This year I was ready and I knew not to eat before hand and just stuff you pick up from doing it multiple times," said Champion Matthew Cooper, who finished second in last year's contest.
Miss Frederick County Fair Erin Spinks made the contest a priority, but was only able to eat thee and a half pieces of pie.
"We were at the pig show, and I was going to be taking pictures with the grand-prize winner, but the pie eating contest was way more important," said Spinks.
TV3's Mike Giangreco was slightly disappointed with his performance. He though that his sports mentality could propel him to pie eating glory.
"You eat the pies to win the contest!" yelled Giangreco. "You eat the pies to win! It was a fun experience, didn't win, but got second."
