There are about 200 new teachers to our surrounding school districts.
They're excited for their first year and eager to make an impact on our youth.
They already have advice for their new students.
"I would say just be ready to have fun. We're going to learn and it'll be a learning experience and big challenge for all of us but we'll get through and we're here to have fun and to learn and not to worry. It'll be good," said Danielle Scalise.
Scalise is a new teacher and getting ready to teach first grade at Indian Hollow Elementary. She says Kindergarten to first grade is a big step.
"Just relax and don't be nervous. You'll be in good hands. Everyone is here to support you," said Scalise.
"Everyone is just so welcoming and kind here. It's been a really easy adjustment," said Molly Sharbaugh.
She'll be starting her first year as a ninth and twelfth grade English teacher at Sherando High School.
"My advice for freshman is just for them to be themselves and to be able to express who they are and it seems like a big change, but once they're adjusted it'll be a great experience for them."
"I'm looking forward to the year... getting back in the room with the kids. I've worked with many of these students for several years now, so it'll be a new experience," said Andrew Dudley.
Dudley has been with Winchester Public Schools for six years. This year, he'll start a new position as a high school special education teacher. He has a message for his students.
"Be excited about learning. I think it's going to be a good year. Looking forward to learning and growing with them," said Dudley.
New and returning teachers all over our area are spending the next few days in workshops and in-service days.
From lesson plans to decorating their classrooms, they're getting ready for students to come into the classroom.
