Cutting Costs On Food

"It's mostly been just going to the stores, finding the deals and if it's not on sale then I won't buy it that week."

That's how a local mom saves money on food.

"when I first started out, it was a little bit easier, but now with the kids I had to re-plan and shop at different stores. Kind of make a mock shopping list, go to each store and figure out where would be cheaper."

Joann Dalrymple has two little girls. She says you don't need to cut coupons to save on healthy food for your kids.

"If there is a new store open and you don't know for sure about it just wait on a day that you know that you're going close to that place and just check out the prices. I will write down prices and compare to other places, so that I know what place is the cheapest."

When we talk about searching for savings we're not just talking about looking around town for the best prices, some of these moms say they'll travel 45 minutes so they can find the cheapest food to provide for their family.

"I can save enough money that it makes it worth the trip down here."

She says just by shopping at a discount store she saved not only time but one hundred dollars.

"I do it all in one day, where a lot of people go grocery shopping all month long or once a week. It saves me from the trip out every week."

But for most, making the right budget for your family is the best thing you can do.

"My husband and I, we just bought a house so everything is on a budget. Everything is tight so we have to say okay, we have this amount of money to spend, so this week we have to eat this just because this is how much money we have."
