Bike Patrol Out In Force

These officers patrol in Warren County Parks and Rec trails almost every day. But they do it in a way that other officers can't.

"This is different because we're in places where a regular vehicle can't get to. As far as being out there and being vigilant," said bike patrol officer Sgt. Charles Bockey.

They've had the program for 12 years. And one of their main goals is to keep the trails safe.

"We'll be out, paired up, going throughout the trails. Making sure people's walks are safe and there's no criminal activity going on and everyone can enjoy their walk or jog," said Bockey.

Kerry Magalis is a walker who is out on the trails every day. She says she's happy to see bike patrol riding next to her.

"A lot safer, so that nothing ever happens thats bad," said Magalis.

One of the reasons why bike patrol says there hasn't been crime on the trails is because they've been patrolling pretty often.

"I think it's great. Like I said, now a days having children, you can never be too safe. So if that's what it takes to keep your kids safe," said trail walker and parent Mary Becker.

But these officers dont' just get on a bike and go. They've been through extensive training to know what to look for.

"Damage that may have been done, littering. Making sure know one needs help of any kind," said Bockey.

The bike patrol officers go out a few hours at a time.

Their bikes even have sirens and are equipted with the same emergency equipment as a cop car.

And because of their constant patrol, parents are more at ease.

"As parent, it's nice to know that there's extra safety out there as well," said Becker.

And the bike patrols make that happen.
