Democratic superdelegate Jennifer McClellan of Richmond is throwing her support to Barack Obama.
McClellan was one of four party activists nationally to commit yesterday to the frontrunner in the Democratic presidential nomination battle. McClellan, a member of the House of Delegates, previously had supported Hillary Clinton.
McClellan told reporters that Tuesday's primaries persuaded her to commit to Obama. Clinton barely won in Indiana, but Obama trounced her in North Carolina to widen his lead.
By McClellan's reckoning, Clinton has too much ground to make up. She said Clinton would need to win about 70 percent of the remaining primaries and superdelegates -- and she doesn't see that happening.
