The Winchester 8-and-under Little League team is state champs, but it's what they did off the field Thursday night that was just as impressive.
They were out at the Winchester Royals game raising money.
Now that they're state champs, Alabama for the regional tournament is the next stop, and they're helping their parents pay to get down there.
“You know what it says about the kids?” says team manager Dan Croyle. “The kids are so energetic about anything, if you make it exciting they'll follow through with it. But these kids would stay and watch baseball all night. I bet at least half these kids after practice would come to the game regardless.”
The trip is going to be a memory that will last a lifetime and the kids know it. They're just excited to be going on such a great trip with their friends.
“I think it's a treat for making it to south regionals. I'm just really excited about that because our whole team is here. We don't have one person missing and it's fun to just hang out with my buds and all that,” says 1st baseman Dalton Robinson.
“It's super cool because only two teams in Virginia get to go to regionals and we're one of them,” says Hayden Burke, the team’s 2nd baseman who won MVP of the state tournament.
“It's fun because they're all my best friends,” says 3rd baseman William Croyle. “They're kind of like brothers.”
