A Winchester man has been arrested and charged after leading police on a chase through downtown Wednesday night.
Sergeant Joseph McPeak says Winchester police officers were first called to a business on Valley Avenue just after 7:00 p.m. for a man who had just shoplifted.
But when they arrived, the suspect, 25-year-old James Jones, drove off in a black Dodge Durango, traveling through town at high speeds.
Winchester Police caught up with him heading north on Loudoun Street when he turned on James Street.
Sgt. McPeak reports Jones fled on foot and Officer Noland caught up to him. Jones resisted but when other officers arrived, they were able to arrest him.
Jones was charged with two counts of Felony Eluding, Shoplifting, Possession of Controlled Substance, Resisting Arrest, and various traffic offenses.
