UVa Faculty Senate to Meet Over Sullivan Removal

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) -- Leaders of the University of Virginia's Faculty Senate are gathering in emergency session ahead of a meeting with the Board of Visitors over the removal of President Teresa Sullivan.

The emergency meeting was set for Sunday evening in the U.Va. Darden School of Business. The Faculty Senate says the meeting is open to the public.

The Faculty Senate says its executive council is set to meet with the Board of Visitors on Monday morning, hours before the Board of Visitors is scheduled to consider candidates for interim president. Sullivan has agreed to step down Aug. 15.

On Thursday Faculty Senate leaders approved a resolution expressing strong support for Sullivan and a lack of confidence in Rector Helen Dragas, Vice Rector Mark J. Kington and the Board of Visitors.
